Well, just a reminder, this game is supposed to be a role-playing an miniature game. In English, the game used both role-playing and miniatures. A straight up miniature game will be released with an expansion book called "War Lords" after the "Player's Handbook" is released, giving more options for the miniature and RPG aspects.
But the question now is this...
Would there be a way to devise a system that would allow just plain terrain over a battle grid?
Terrain (for Grumble Guy) is just like all the boards in New Frontiers. I'm pretty sure (hopefully) I don't have to elaborate it for LotR players.
The reason I ask is that if you have all these well painted and finely detailed figures for your characters and enemies, and then play on a boring paper with a grid on it just seems lackluster. I find it to be a whole lot more fun if you can use your three-dimensional figures on a three-dimensional table.
So, yep. Can there be a way for us to use a terrain table rather than a battlegrid, or is it game-wise impossible?

Umm... It was like that when I found it.

Well, how much of the combat system is figured out?
I'm sure that using a 3 dimensional field is possible, but I don't have a very firm grasp on how they work-- mechanics-wise.

I still don't understand how things are exactly working so I can't help with this one!

Well, the D&D rules require the use of a grid system so they can effectively see where models are in relation with each other, but avid miniature game players have no need for this skill, as they already have it.
I think I'll try the terrain for now and see how it ends up!

Well, I found a pic of some terrain that I really liked. This is what I want this game to be played on. Just the vastness of the ruin compared to the figures is just...wow! This is a picture from Games Workshop's upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Ruin of Arnor sourcebook, and if they don't have a guide on how to build it in that, then I'll build something similar and put it in our book. Having said that, I have concluded that I do want a miniature section in the Player's Handbook, complete with some terrain and painting guides. If all goes as I plan, then there may be figures released as a set with the Player's Handbook, so...very cool. Here's the terrain: It will be built and I soon will have sculpted the very first SotDL figures, ready to be cast into resin and painted!
